It is with heavy hearts that we release Edwin Arthur Martin to heavenly peace. A legendary trucker of almost 60 years, seasoned veteran of the winter roads, lover of animals and the outdoors, storyteller without compare, music lover, and a man of enduring faith who would reach out to make a friend of anyone he met.

He died suddenly at Portage General Hospital on January 21, 2024 at 80 years of age; only a few short weeks after a diagnosis of Stage Four cancer with significant spinal column and brain metastasis.

He is survived by his wife of 55 1/2 years Brenda (nee Gibson), his daughters Virginia (James) and Rebecca (Mark), and grandsons Garrett and Connor.

He also leaves to mourn his younger siblings: Carol, Ken (Betty), Andy (Dianne), Robert (Marlene), Doug (Barb), Katherin (William), his brother-in-law Thomas (Debbie) and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents (Helena and Peter), younger brother Ron, infant sister Shirley, daughter-in-law Carol, and brother-in-law Eddie.

Three days before his passing, Ed wrote the following message for family and friends:

“In the event of my departure, please do not be stricken with sadness, but rather rejoice. I have won the victory in Jesus. Let there be singing, lots of singing of praise, honour and glory. I have lived a long life and God has been so good to me; never foresaken me. Give praise! Give thanks. Amen. “

Donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Salem Foundation or a charity of your choice.
