Woods, Garth Ross
At Oakview Place on Monday, June 26, 2023, Garth Ross Woods passed away at the age of 90.
Garth will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Minnie (nee Brown) of 64 years along with their two sons: Bradley (Judy) and Daryl Woods. Garth leaves to mourn three grandchildren: Jeremy, Emily and Mitchell and Mitchell’s Mom, Robyn. He will also be remembered by his brother Donnie and sister-in-law Helen, along with his nieces and nephews. Garth was predeceased by his parents David and Hazel Woods, Minnie’s parents Henry and Pearl Brown, sister Ruth (Peter) Harris and brother-in-law John (Kathleen) Brown.
Garth was born on the family farm at Culross, Manitoba on June 26, 1933 and grew up in the town of Elm Creek attending Elm Creek School. Garth and Minnie were married in 1958 and began life together in Winnipeg. In 1965 they purchased their home on Cavalier Drive where they raised their sons, living in the same house for 58 years. Garth worked at Manitoba Hydro for 33 years, traveling to communities throughout the province before retiring in 1989. It was through these travels that Garth met and formed many friendships that would last well beyond his working years.
Garth enjoyed the outdoors and spent many days in his youth and throughout his life with family and friends hunting. In later years he was a member of the Winnipeg Civilian Rifle Association and the Assiniboia Wildlife Federation. Garth had a strong connection to rural Manitoba and with his family spent countless weekends at the farm of Minnie’s parents. For many years, Garth together with his son Bradley, maintained a small beekeeping operation as a hobby at Eriksdale (where they learned the real meaning of hard work).
In retirement, Garth and Minnie enjoyed trips to eastern Canada, Palm Springs and the western Prairies. Gardening, daily walks with the family dog, having coffee with his buddies at Unicity Mall and spending time visiting with family and friends were staples of Garth’s daily routine. Above all else, Garth’s focus was staying connected with his family, friends and especially his three grandchildren, who were his greatest pride.
