Ronald Lowry

Ron Lowry, aged 89 years, passed peacefully on Dec. 28, 2021 at his home in Carman MB. with loving family attending.

Ron was born in Miami MB on Oct 4th, 1932, and was raised on the family farm in Altamont, MB.  He loved playing sports, including baseball, curling and hockey.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing over many years.  The pastime he grew to love in his retirement was playing golf.  He spent hours on many golf courses and participated in the Manitoba Senior Games where he earned several medals.  He was very proud of his “hole in one’ achievement.  Ron was an accomplished saxophone player.  From an early age he travelled the countryside playing for dances with the well known Altamont orchestra.  He continued playing with a local group until recently. In later life many an hour was spent reading a good book, doing the daily crosswords, and watching sports on T.V.

Ron married his high school sweetheart Marjorie Lynds in 1950.  Together they raised a family of four and remained in Altamont.  His occupations included trucking, farming and employment with MB Crop Insurance.  He was a board member for St. Leon Co-op for many years.

After the passing of his first wife in 1992, Ron was fortunate to reconnect with a friend who became the second love of his life.  Ron and Donna Godard were married in 1996 while on a winter getaway in Texas and settled together in Carman, MB.  Ron’s family grew, as he became a loving step-dad and grandpa to Donna’s three girls and their families.

Ron enjoyed many camping trips and travels including trips to Alaska, the Yukon, Vancouver Island, and US destinations.  He and Donna especially enjoyed experiencing Australia and New Zealand.

Ron was a good natured, loving and honest man with a ready smile or chuckle and always a story to tell.  He loved his family which was evident in his words and actions.

Survived by wife of 25 years, Donna Godard, children Barbara (Russ), Gary (Janice), Ross (Geri), Allan (Mary-Lou), 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, step children Brenda, Patti (Brian), Pam (Eric) and their extended families.

Pre-deceased by first wife of 42 years, Marjorie, brother Bruce and parents Gordon and Katie.

Funeral service and burial to be held at a later date.
