Elva Jean Savage (Johnston)

Mom passed away peacefully on June 10, 2021. Mom was born in Sanford on May16, 1926 and the family moved north of Culross when she was 2. She attended Giltedge and Wingham Schools and then worked as a teller for the Bank of Commerce in Carman. She married Doug Savage June 22, 1946 and they farmed in Elm Creek (Wingham) area.

They had 4 sons Robert (Barb), Don, Allan, Rod (Helen). Grandchildren Ryan (Myra), Erin (Pat) Rey, Dayna (Cam) Hardy, Jaclyn (Mike) MacKenzie, Dean (Lauire), Kelly (Beau) Richardson, Mark (Chantel). Her great grandchildren included Madilyn, Tyson, Misty, Nila, Ainsley, Hunter, Norah, Kylan, Quinn, Landon and Luke. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband Doug, parents Joseph and Clara Johnston, her brother Arthur (Bud) with RCAF in June 1944, her father and mother‑in‑law Alex and Sarah Savage and her daughter‑in‑law Dianne.

Mom had been a member of Wingham UCW group, trustee for Midland School Division and Doug and Elva were inducted into Canadian Hereford Association Honour Roll in 1995. In 1984, MB Hereford Association awarded her Woman of the Year. Mom was the last living relative of her generation on both sides of her family. She had a keen interest in the family trees of both the Johnston and Savage families.  She searched back on as many generations as she could find on both. Many times a question directed to her ended in a history lesson of either family or community.

The family would like to thank Rob and Pat Hamm for being such good neighbors the last 17 years in Carman.

In lieu of flowers, if one desires, donations can be made to Elm Creek United Church, Box 144, Elm Creek, MB, R0G 0N0 or the Keith Gilmore Foundation 5160 Skyline Way N.E., Calgary, Alberta.  T2E 6V1.

Private family graveside service will be held in the Elm Creek Cemetery.
