Margaret Doreen Storey

On the morning of July 31st, Doreen Storey of Miami, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at 87 years of age. Doreen was the daughter of Gordon and Fanny Madill and was born and raised in Altamont Manitoba. She attended grade 12 in Winnipeg and obtained a permit to teach then secured a teaching a position at Mt Nebo school. While teaching there she became acquainted with her husband Tom who predeceased her in 1998 after 44 years of marriage. They had 4 daughters; Evelyn (David) Thompson and their daughter Jaime (Dave) Puchalski and their children Wyatt and Riley; Carol Storey and her son Greg (Holly Elliot) Storey and their sons Jack and Erik; Joanne (Luc) Desaulniers and their son Brendon; and Louise Storey. As well, Doreen is survived by her sisters, Catherine Orchard, Ruth Haines and June Stockford along with many nieces and nephews.

Mom was active in the community over the years in curling, golf, ringette, UCW and Eastern Star and served on the committee that compiled and published the Hills of Home book. She spent many hours transporting her daughters to various activities and using her sewing skills to create our costumes for figure skating. She was also an avid reader and an accomplished knitter.

She helped Dad on the farm when necessary driving the grain truck, cultivating, or running for parts.

We would like to thank all the people in the community especially Karen & Henri Le Blanc, Brenda Kroeker and Ardelle & Brian Unger who made it possible for Mom to stay in her own home as long as she did.

If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Miami Area Foundation or a charity of their choice in Doreen’s memory.

In keeping with Mom’s wishes a private internment will be held.
