Melva Marion Burnett (nee Hodgson)
Melva Marion Burnett (nee Hodgson) was born September 6, 1929 at the family farm in Roland, MB. After her education years at Myrtle School, she was employed as a telephone operator in Roland. She married Bev Burnett November 7, 1953 and together they farmed and raised 3 children.
Mom was a provider. She had a huge garden from which she froze, canned and preserved shelves full of provisions for winter. Around Roland she was famous for her butter tarts. Her family remembers chocolate layer birthday cakes, 24 hour salad, scones and raspberry pies and jams. Mom never aspired to be the center of attention but we all knew that she was the steadfast pillar of support for our family. She contributed food, washed dishes and cleaned up at countless community events. Mom curled with the Roland ladies, enjoyed quilting bees, played the organ and completed many knitting projects. She and Dad participated in the Carman Bowling League in earlier years and after retirement, they loved to go on camping and fishing trips with their many friends. Mom was such a kind lady, always putting others' needs ahead of her own. Her warm smile and funny little giggle will always be at the forefront of the many memories we will cherish.
Mom passed away peacefully at Boyne Lodge on April 19, 2020 with family near. She was predeceased by her husband, Bev in 1999, brother Jim Hodgson, sister Berna Adams and several brothers and sisters in-law. She is survived by daughter Brenda (Bill) Whitehead, daughter Mona Burnett, son Gord (Janet) Burnett, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Boyne Lodge staff who cared for Mom in kindness and compassion since 2018.
