DONALD MURRAY MADDISON

Peacefully with family at his side Donnie passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Boyne Lodge in Carman. He will be sadly missed by sister Deb (Rick) Penner of Carman and brother Alan (Agnes) Maddison of Carman. Nephews Tyler (Jenn) Penner, great nieces Josie and Leah Penner, Chris (Janine) Penner, great nephew Kaden Penner all of Carman. Nephews Mike and Steven Maddison of Strathclair, Mb., as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Donnie was predeceased by parents, Murray and Leah Maddison.

Born in Carman, Donnie attended Tobacco Creek School until the age of 15. He then farmed with dad for several years before attending a vocational school in Winnipeg in 1964. He then worked for Carman Radio & TV for many years. Donnie then began his career with Manitoba Highways in 1973. He travelled and worked in the scale shacks in the summer and did dispatch work in the winter. He made many friends and loved this work which was a testament being employed for 23 years.

Despite the disability Donnie had from a young age, he had a meaningful employment life. He was always on the go early for both tasks and worked long hours in the summer months.

Donnie loved the farm life and took part in many plowing competitions in his early 20’s with the Graysville Tractor Club. He won a competition in 1960 and was awarded a beautiful trophy of which he was very proud. Much fun was had with the CB and Snowmobile Clubs and in later years cribbage tournaments and darts for which he won for being the most honest!!!!

Donnie had great ethics and morals with working hard and playing hard. He had so many friends, a sense of humor second to none and a real prankster!!

Donnie never let his disabilities stop him at anything, he was funny, witty, loved to dance and had nicknames for everybody. His rhymes and sayings would set you into complete hysterics. We as family will miss him terribly but are thankful that he is now at peace.

There will be a private internment at Greenwood Cemetery with funeral service to follow on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10:00 from Carman United Church with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. After lunch at the Church, visiting and stories will continue at the Carman Legion.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook, St. Winnipeg, Man. R3A 1M5 or Boyne Lodge, Box 910, Carman, Man. R0G 0J0
