Christina Catherine (Kaye) nee MacQueen

Mom was born January 04/1931 to Kenneth and Sarah MacQueen in Victoria County, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.  She grew up in a Gaelic speaking Scottish family.  Her brothers were all fishermen, and her father a blacksmith.  Her mom was the home maker, and regional midwife.

Mom met our dad through dad’s brother who was the minister of the community. Dad sent mom her engagement ring in a box of chocolates.  They were married by Rev. William Reid on January 25/1951.

They took the train from Halifax to Montreal for a brief honeymoon and then traveled west to start life on the family farm.  Mom settled into the farm life, and became a part of the community.  Her and dad took trips back to Cape Breton, where they would stay for several weeks over the winter.  They also enjoyed trips to the States over the years.

Mom passed away June 25/2019 at the Red River Valley Lodge, Morris, Manitoba.

Left to mourn her passing are Merle (Stan) Toews, Dorothy (Bob) Fife, Bruce (Cathy) Reid.  Grandchildren Kelly (Jason) Lutzak, Darren, Bryan Fife, great grandchildren Lucas, Ana Lutzak,   several nieces and nephews.  Mom was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Robert James, her daughter Anne Maureen, her granddaughter Jennifer Kathryn Toews, her parents, her 3 brothers and their wives.

Donations may be sent to the charity of ones choice.  Graveside private service has taken place. Entrusted with care is Doyle’s Funeral Home, Carman Manitoba

What a beautiful photo and write-up of lovely Kaye. She was a loving woman who was warm and welcoming everytime I was fortunate enough to see her. Kaye's legacy lives on in her family in many ways. My condolences.

Dorothy, Bruce and Merle.....I always enjoyed a visit with your Mom. Always a funny moment when bumping into her at Homestead and she never forgot me as "Smitty". Take care......

Bruce & Cathy,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Kaye's passing. She has been in my thoughts, the laughs we had and the many wonderful conversations. She will truly be missed.
I was encouraged by your mom to do my best and I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity to have known her. She will remain in my memories as she was, a beautiful, strong, and smart woman. Please accept my deepest condolences.
