John E. Marshall

February 16, 1935 – April 21, 2019

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of John Marshall on April 21, 2019 at Carman Hospital at age 84. He is survived by his wife Helen; children Ron (Nancy), Cheryl and Debra (Jack); grandchildren Jeff (Alexis), Nikki, Amy (Trevor), Tabitha (David), Alex, Cameron and Johnny; and great grandchildren Anna, Riley, Quinton, Lilian and Noah. John was predeceased by his parents Robert and Maud, son Kenneth, and brothers Stanley, Henry, Cecil and Bert.

John was born on the family farm near Roseisle, MB and spent his formative years on the farm and in the family home in Miami, MB. John and Helen were married in 1957 and enjoyed a long 61 year relationship living in Brandon, Virden, Rapid City, Portage and Starbuck. John spent 38 years working for Manitoba Hydro as an electrician, wiring inspector, and managing a residential energy efficiency program. In 1992 after retiring, John spent six years on the MacDonald Municipality Council.

John will be remembered for his deep knowledge of all things, his storytelling, his strong opinions and his skills at gardening, horticulture and woodworking. In his later years he completed hundreds of community, furniture making and refinishing projects, and has left a legacy of hundreds of wooden bowls that he turned on his lathe.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on June 10, 2019 at the Starbuck Trinity Lutheran Church.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. We would like to thank Palliative Care for the kind assistance through John’s health struggles and all the compassionate kind deeds that were bestowed by his friends, relatives and neighbours. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
