On December 28th, 2018, Marna Weidenhammer, a dear wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to so many, was called home to the Lord Jesus at the age of 54, after suffering from cancer for 5 years.

She leaves behind her beloved and devoted husband of 32 years, Wayne, and their 5 children, Evelyn Prins (Siert), Henry (Rachel), Ben (Kenzie), Esther Kampen (Ryan), and Bradley (girlfriend Alyssa), her grandchildren, Wayne, Anne, Charlotte, and Jonathan Prins, and Charlie Kampen. She was predeceased by her father, John Aikema, son, Andrew, and granddaughter, Heidi Kampen, and leaves behind her mother, Jane Petter, and siblings, Jeanne, Jack, and Richard.

Mom and Dad started their family in London, Ontario. They moved a couple more times in Ontario before settling in Manitoba in 1996. Marna was a dedicated homemaker; her children have many fond memories of their childhood. She loved gardening and canning, and often took her children for day trips during the summer. Whether her children were schooled at home or at Dufferin Christian School, she dedicated many hours to family trips, classroom help, and community work. She worked at the local Oxbow Inn for a few years, where her eye for detail and cleanliness was valuable. Her love for music was always evident: she accompanied in church for many years on the organ and loved playing piano. She also sang both in the church choir as well as a community choir. She volunteered at Dufferin Christian School for a number of years, helping students in the classroom, playing piano for the choir, and assisting teachers in marking papers. The light of Christ shone through her in whatever task she was doing. She provided much joy in her home and wherever her workplace was, never complaining about the journey the Lord put on her path with cancer. She kept her sense of humour to the end, and often used that to even help her family through her Journey Home. In many ways Mom was the glue that held the family together. She provided much laughter and enjoyed starting up conversation.

Her journey with cancer was a long and painful one, but she never gave up hope that the Lord could heal her, if it was his will. She encouraged her family to pray for healing, even when healing seemed out of reach humanly speaking. We will miss her so dearly but are thankful she has been relieved of her suffering. She has been granted her desire, to be with her Lord and to have her pain taken away.

The church and town communities have been incredibly supportive. We thank God for the help and provision we have been given through you.

The funeral service will be held at the Carman East Canadian Reformed Church, 112-4th Avenue S.E., Carman, MB, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 10:00 a.m.  An audio livestream link will be available on the church website

If desired, donations made to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Carman Palliative Care Program would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Wayne and family, and Marnas' Mother, sister and brothers. Our deepest sympathies are with you- and you are in our prayers. To paraphrase Rev. Janssen- she may have succumbed to the disease, but the real battle defeating the power of death has been won for her in our Christ. May He carry you through.
