Cummer DorisDoris Cummer

Mom was born in Carman on May 23, 1932. She grew up on the family farm just one mile north of Carman.  She married our dad, Gordon, on February 5, 1949 and they moved to the family farm at Haywood to start their married life.  In 1955 they moved to Elm Creek where they farmed until 1973.  In 1973 they retired from farming and moved to Carman where Dad was then working at Stephenfield Park and Mom was working at the Boyne Lodge.

Mom was pre-deceased by dad in 1988. Also pre-deceased by her parents, Hugh and Agnes Somers, her brothers, Bert, Bill and Alan and infant sisters Florence and Beth.  Left to mourn her passing are her siblings Mabel, Don (Rose), Bernice, Ethel and their families; her children: Ken (Kim), Pat (Harv), Fred, Brian (Shirley), Brenda (Cliff); 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was extremely active all her life right to the end.  She was a caring, kind and loving person to all who knew her.  She was a 4H Leader for the 4H Sewing Club.  She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion -Carman Branch 18 and served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary for a period of time.

She will be missed for all the things she did to help so many:
- baking muffins and lunches for music/jam sessions at Riverview
- picking up carloads of strawberries, eggs, etc for friends who couldn't drive
- driving friends to medical and other appointments

She knitted and crocheted blankets and sweaters for grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved gardening and had her own garden she worked on last week.  She had huge family dinners for her large family as well as family dinners at her suite with her wonderful meals.  She was truly a force to be reckoned with and a wonderful role model to her family.  She was the keeper of the family history and kept track of everyone's birthdays.

Mom is now at peace with her beloved husband, Gordon, our dad, grandfather and grandfather.

Thank you to BTHC for keeping Mom comfortable in the last couple days.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 18.  Funeral service will be held April 27th at 2:00 pm at the United Church in Carman.  Private family interment with family meeting everyone back at Legion Hall for lunch.

Aunt Doris was one person who you can say would put you first in any situation, because at that moment whatever she was doing did'nt seem to matter. She will be greatly missed by my family as my wife Cheryl and my children Raina & Jeff and their families had many happy visits with Aunt Doris and will forever have her in our hearts ....... Hopefully she is at peace with her family that had passed before her.
