McIntosh David photoJohn Davidson (David) McIntosh

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Davidson (David) McIntosh at the Boundary Trails Health Centre on Aug. 27, 2017, with his loving family by his side. Beloved husband of Carol (McLean) for 43 years, father of Jennifer and Curtis, grandfather of Jillian and Christian, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was born on May 29, 1947 in Winkler, Manitoba to John Davidson (Jack) and Jean McIntosh. He had an older brother Fraser and a younger sister Sheila. David grew up on the family farm north of Manitou, attending school in Manitou and from an early age was helping his father on the farm. He farmed with his parents and then with Fraser, spending more than 50 years engaged in the work he loved, tilling the land that had been in the family since the late 1800s. He and Carol lived on the family farm in a house that had been built by his great grandfather and their home became the gathering place for their families.

1999 was a particularly exciting year for the family as Jennifer married Mathew Mozdzen and Curtis married Julie Selby. Many happy dinners were spent with the immediate family and the extended McIntosh and McLean families, sharing funny stories which would inevitably cause David to break out into his memorable laugh.

Tragically, Curtis passed away in 2002, leaving a huge hole in David’s heart. In the years to come, a highlight of his life was the birth of his grandchildren in 2007 and 2009. He enjoyed visiting Jennifer, Mathew, Jillian and Christian and loved attending the kids’ activities and supporting them in their various pursuits. Time with Uncle David was also treasured by his various nieces and nephews.

He was active in his community, serving as a municipal councillor and school board trustee. He loved sports, particularly football and baseball. He enjoyed travel, especially his trips to Hawaii with family, but his heart was really in southern Manitoba where he could enjoy the beauty and serenity of the prairies.

David was predeceased by his son Curtis, parents Jack and Jean McIntosh, father-in-law Donald McLean, step father-in-law Bert Hall, and other relatives.

David is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Jennifer (Mathew), grandchildren Jillian & Christian, brother Fraser (Muriel), sister Sheila (Phil), nephews Blaine (Leah) and Colin (Nancie), nieces Julia and Emily,  daughter-in-law Julie (Phil) and their families, as well as mother-in-law Beth and many McLean relatives.

David’s thoughtfulness and kind, gentle demeanour will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A private family service will be held at the Manitou Community Cemetery. If desired, donations may be directed to the Pembina Manitou Area Foundation, the Manitou Opera House Foundation or the St. Andrew’s United Church Memorial Fund.
