Halstead cropWilma Halstead (nee Hanna McCallum)

With love and sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of our dear Mom after a long and fulfilling life - 7 days short of her 99th Birthday.

Mom was born July 8, 1917 in Lisbon North Dakota to Robert & Louise Hanna.  The youngest of 8 children, at the age of 2 her mother passed away and 2 years later the family was separated.  Mom was then adopted into the family of Tom & Elizabeth McCallum of Myrtle, Manitoba.  Mom attended Myrtle School, and was an active member of the Myrtle United Church for many years as a Sunday School teacher, on the Church Board and as a choir member.  Mom was also active in the W.A. and W.I.  In her early years she liked curling, and more recently she took part in the seniors shuffling and bowling.  Most recently at The Towers she really enjoyed WI bowling.

Mom married the love of her life Harold Halstead on November 30, 1939. They farmed from 1948 to 1987 – retired to Carman in 1994.

Mom was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, infant daughter, her parents, 5 sisters, 4 brothers, 1 great grandson, 1 sister-in-law, and 2 brother-in-laws.  Left to cherish her memory are her family Wayne (Pat), Jack (Cathy), Dale (Odette), Janice (Bart) Slobodzian, half brother Roger Hanna, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren,  and in-laws, Dot Halstead, Dorothy Halstead, Audrey & George Schollie, many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Special thanks to the entire staff at the Carman Hospital, and to those care givers at The Towers for your loving care.

A service celebrating Mom will be held at 2:00 p.m.  on July 8th, at Friends Community Church, Carman, Manitoba with Pastor Neil Funk officiating. .  Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.  Mom’s final resting place will be by her husband’s side at the Myrtle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, or CNIB.
