It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence William Colvin at his childhood residence on Feb. 15, 2016 at the age of 70.
Lawrence was born on March 13, 1945, the only son of William and Doris Colvin of Carman. He was predeceased by his mother in 1994, his father in 1996 and his beloved partner, Mildred Salter in 2011.
After graduating from Carman Collegiate in 1964, Lawrence attended Red River College graduating from the Professional Photography program as gold medalist. He began his career employed as a photographer with CKND (now Global). Following that, he worked in the Photography Dept. of Woolco and later continued on with his career as a freelance photographer.
In the 1980's as his parents aged, Lawrence moved back to Carman where he lovingly and selflessly helped care for them until their passing. It was there that he became reacquainted with Mildred, who became his loving soul mate for 17 years . With Mildred, Lawrence enjoyed many social events, road trips and special occasions with their endearing circle of friends whom they affectionately referred to as "the gang". After Mildred's passing, Lawrence continued on with this friendship and they continued including him on all occasions as just another member of their families.
Lawrence loved life and took time to enjoy the simple things in life. He loved music, reading, creative writing, art and collectibles, especially clowns. He enjoyed Syls', Sunday suppers, Farmers’ markets, fairs and book sales. He was passionate about the Carman Fair and faithfully volunteered with the DAS every year. He was an animal lover and cherished his cats, never missing to make sure they were fed on time. He looked forward to joining his friends at the bakery each day for coffee. He loved to walk and the familiar sight of him walking around Carman will be missed.
Lawrence's many cousins and friends will miss visiting and having coffee or lunch with him.
A graveside service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Carman, Mb. at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 with Rev. Trudy Thorarinson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Boyne Lodge or a charity of choice.
