Gibson Fern web photoFern Maxine Maud Gibson (nee Banting) was born December 20, 1925 in Bowsman Manitoba and passed away peacefully on October 16, 2015 at Carman Memorial Hospital Carman, Manitoba.

Fern spent her school years between Birch River and Flin Flon. She was the youngest of a family of ten. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Belle (nee Bradley) and Sidney Banting, brothers Wilmore, Art, Harve, Les, Sinc, and Ralph and sister Kay. Ilene and Donald died in infancy.

Teaching was Fern’s profession until she married Harold (Bus) on July 7, 1956. This union was blessed with a daughter Dianne. Bus and Fern lived and farmed in the Rosebank and Tobacco Creek district until 2004 when they retired to Carman.

Fern was a lifelong friend to pen pals in England and Australia and visited them both. Trips to Ontario, Tucson, Montreal and Nashville and even camping in Devil’s Lake were much enjoyed events.

A great joy in Fern’s life was the support, mentoring and caring from the Rosebank U.C.W ladies. Ruby Leatherdale was one of the last of this group and one of Fern’s closest friends.

Fern will be greatly missed by her husband Bus, of 59 years, Dianne and her husband Ross and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held on October 20, 2015 at Carman United Church with Rev. Karen Tjaden officiating. Internment took place in Greenwood Cemetery, Carman Manitoba.
