Fran was born on October 9, 1953 in Carman, MB, the third oldest of 5 children and grew up on a farm near Homewood, MB.  She passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015.

Francis will be sadly missed by her husband, Jim and daughters, Sherri and Carla (Donnell).  She was predeceased by her parents, Nellie Irene and John Milton (Mike) Downs.

Francis married her husband on July 17, 1971 and they resided in Carman.  She started her career working as a secretary at the Midland School Division and then did bookkeeping at the Carman Golf Club before starting her catering business which she operated for 20 years.  She enjoyed entertaining and hosted numerous dinner parties for friends.  She was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and held various positions on the Executive Committee.  She liked golfing and had a lot of fun times when she went away with her friends on girls’ golf weekends.  She was fortunate to have done a lot of travelling with family and friends.  Some of her favourite holidays were Hawaii, Jamaica, Europe, Mexico, Cuba, Panama along with various cruise destinations.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Grenier and Dr. Menzies along with all the other medical staff at Boundary Trails and CancerCare Manitoba for their care and compassion.

As per Francis’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 28 1st Street NW, Carman, MB.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either CancerCare at BTHCF, Box 2000, Station Main, Winkler, MB, R6W 1H8 or the Carman Active Living Centre, 47 Ed Belfour Dr., Carman, MB, R0G 0J0.
