Bertram Smith Cutting
September 29, 1918 - November 30, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bert Cutting, aged 96, from this life; but with great faith in Christ our Saviour, we rejoice in the victory of a faithful Christian believer now at home with His Lord.
Bert was predeceased by his first wife Elsie in 1992 and by his second wife Edith (Jefkins) in 2009, also by his older brother Earl Cutting in 1994 and Earl’s wife Annie in 2013.
He is survived by his daughter Alison (Kent) Malm, granddaughter Sherilyn Malm, son Blake (Tanya) Cutting, brother Harvey (Gloria) Cutting, brother Murray (Margaret) Cutting, sister Shirley (Walter) Connor, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bert was born in Carman and was raised on the family farm at Homewood. He served 4 years in the RCAF during the war and participated in the Occupation Force in Europe.
He married Elsie Black in 1943 and returned to farming after the war. He purchased a farm at Miami MB in 1953 and farmed until 1985, when he and Elsie retired to Carman.
Elsie passed away and in 1996 Bert married Edith Jefkins.
Bert loved farming, which suited his independent spirit and he had a passion for outdoor activities – hunting, fishing and golf. He and Elsie loved to go camping and fishing with their camper group at various locations in southern Manitoba. He enjoyed several years as a member of the Roland Golf Club. While living in Carman, he took up bowling as well. He loved his “crony coffee klatch” both in Miami and in Carman where all the world’s problems were hashed out over the coffee pot. He was an avid baseball fan and he and Edith enjoyed the TV baseball season to the fullest extent.
Our family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to the staff and Home Care staff at the Boyne Towers; to the excellent nursing staff and doctors at the Carman Hospital, as well as the Palliative Care Team, especially Dennis Woods; to Marnie Fry for her warm caring dedication to Dad; to the congregation of the Carman Church of Christ for their lifelong loving relationship with Dad; and a special thank you to his brother Murray, who has always been by his side; – all these special people have nurtured and enhanced Dad’s life.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman Church of Christ with Randy Foss officiating. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carman Hospital Palliative Care, Box 610, Carman, MB R0G 0J0.
