Dyck Roger - orig photoDennis Roger Dyck

September 17, 1959 - May 22, 2014

Roger was welcomed into his heavenly home on May 22, 2014. With family by his side, he slipped away peacefully into his Saviour's arms. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Gacheri Ann and their three children Mwenda, Kendi and Makena; his parents Ben and Margaret Dyck of Carman, Manitoba; in-laws Peter & Salome Kiunga of Nairobi, Kenya; his sister Ruth (Ernie) and his brothers Ron (Linda) and Bob (Marie). He will be greatly missed by his Kenyan siblings Kendi, Joseph (Jessica), Ruth (Paul), Kathambi, Samuel (Sylvia), Nkirote and Kinya, including numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends.

Roger was born and raised in Carman, Manitoba. He attended Carman elementary and graduated from Carman Collegiate in 1977. Roger completed his Diploma in Agriculture at the University of Manitoba and attended His Hill Bible School in Comfort, Texas.  Roger then began his lifelong career of grain farming in Homewood, Manitoba alongside his father Ben, brother Ron and nephew Bradley with pride and dedication. Roger had a passion for farming and for playing piano. You would often find him practising the classical pieces long after the children had gone to bed. Roger enjoyed getting together with friends, taking his Kenyan visitors on farm tours, discussing family, farming, faith and sports.

Roger married the love of his life Gacheri in Nairobi, Kenya on December 20, 1997. Roger was a man whose priority was spending quality and quantity time with his family - his pride and joy being his children! He was a great cheering section for his children, whether it be for Mwenda's hockey, football or piano playing;  cheering and encouraging Kendi's accomplishments in synchronized swimming, piano and soccer or enjoying time with his little girl Makena reading stories, playing with John Deere toys or taking a leisurely swim.  A great disappointment will be that his children will miss his love, guidance and support as they grow into adults.

Roger had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was his family’s unwavering faith that carried them through the difficult journey after Roger’s sudden kidney cancer diagnosis. Family and friends prayed and sang together praising Jesus for the miracles they received during his illness. Roger faced his illness with incredible courage and strength. He was an inspiration to us all as even in his final days his thoughts and concerns were still with others before himself.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law" Galatians 5:22-23

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the numerous family and friends near and far who offered their love, support and prayers during Roger’s illness.

There will be a viewing at Doyle’s Funeral Chapel, Carman, MB on Sunday, June 1 from 7:00-8:00pm.  A Celebration & Farewell Service will be held at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg on Monday, June 2 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at Greenwood Cemetery in Carman, MB.

In honour of their father, Mwenda and Kendi will participate in the CancerCare walk on June 7, 2014. Online Donations can be made to their team “nothing runs like a dear” on the “Challenge for Life 2014” website.
