Sydney Laurie McKay

September 25, 1921 – August 3, 2011

Uncle Syd was born in Tuffs Cove, NS. He lived there for a brief time, as well as Toronto, Ontario and Youngstown, Ohio, before making Winnipeg his home. He joined the army in 1939 and served overseas with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. He returned home in 1945 aboard a hospital ship.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Helen (Rudnick) whom he referred to as a beautiful "Lady". They were married close to 57 years and he found her passing very difficult to accept.

He had worked for a small electrical firm for 39 years before he retired in 1984. Uncle Syd also believed in supporting the small local business which he always practiced.

Both Uncle Syd and Helen were avid golfers and liked to travel. He told me their last trip was to Australia. He was also involved for 11 years with sport parachuting and said all his jumps were successful.

Uncle Syd and Helen moved to Carman, Manitoba in 1996 but often wished they had moved there right after he retired. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no service and his ashes will be placed with Helen at the St.Vital Cemetery. He is finally with his love. He will be missed by many family and friends. Uncle Syd you will always have a special place in my heart.

Rest in Peace. Love Deb.
