Jake Martens

1961 ~ 2011

Jake Martens suddenly went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 near Stephenfield at the age of 49. Jake was born September 7, 1961 in Winkler, MB. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Sara, son Paul and wife Loretta Martens, grandson Luke, daughter Leanne and husband Kelvin Dyck, grandson Jozsef, and daughter Karalyn Martens. Also missing him are his parents Jacob and Anne Martens and family, Jake's brothers Cornnie (Kathy), Fred (Agatha), Robert (Martha), sister Ruth (Steve), parents-in-law Peter and Henrietta Thiessen and family, Jake's sisters-in-law Helen (Abe), Anne (George), Tina (Peter), Henrietta (Dick), Gertrude (Peter), brother-in-law Pete (Barb), and many nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors. He loved them all. Jake grew up on a farm north of Roseisle. He realized his need for a Saviour and trusted Christ after reading an article in a magazine as a teenager, and was baptized at the age of 20. Jake met the love of his life Sara Thiessen in the summer of 1982. They were married on September 16, 1984 and shared life together for almost 27 years. Jake had a love for farming and owned cattle for many years, including all of his married life. For 19 years he also worked for other farmers. In 2003 Jake started working in construction for a local contractor until 2006 when he started his own business- Martens' Build-It. Jake was very gifted and excelled in all he did. Everything he did was done as unto the Lord. He aimed for perfection, as a good reputation was of great importance. Jake loved people and had a special ability relating to them. This was evident in his family and business relationships. His easygoing and caring manner has impacted all those he met. Jake had health problems for many years. He is known for his great determination and perseverance to keep on keeping on! Jake had a love for fishing and enjoyed camping and biking, especially with Sara. They had many memorable getaways which included a weeklong stay at Clear Lake for their 25th wedding anniversary. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his friendliness and genuine smile for all whom he met. Thank you to all for your love, support and prayers.
