Gladys Cochran
(nee Sisson)
September 6, 1925 – June 3, 2011
Peacefully in the arms of a care worker, Gladys passed away Friday June 3, 2011 at the Boyne Lodge, Carman, MB.
Gladys was born at Elm Creek, on September 6, 1925. She married Reg Cochran on December 9, 1955 and together they farmed for a number of years. Then as time passed, changes were made to their type of employment. Gladys was a telephone operator for many years until dial phones took over. Then she became a store clerk until she retired. Reg and Gladys went on a number of fishing trips over the years and there were also lots of Cribbage games played together of with anyone else they could challenge.
Reg predeceased her on May 8, 1988. Gladys remained on the farm for a couple more years them moved to Heritage Manor in Elm Creek which became her home until she moved to the Boyne Towers in Carman in June 2003 due to failing health and increased medical attention. Carman never really felt like home to her because to add further dilemma to her life, dementia was now added to her load of burdens. When the home care demands at the Towers increased beyond their limits, Gladys was transferred on April 14, 2010 to the Carman Memorial Hospital to await placement in the ACU at the Boyne Lodge, which occurred on December 23, 2010.
She is predeceased by her parents Steve and Anne Sisson also brothers Russell, Vern, Bill, and Charlie, sisters Dora, Annie, Bertha, and Peggy. The only surviving sibling is brother Dawson Sisson of Lethbridge, AB, formerly of Dauphin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she leaves with many fond memories.
A memorial service took place at Doyle's Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in Carman at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating, followed by interment of her ashes at Elm Creek Cemetery. Special thanks to Chicken Chef for providing the lunch, organist Rose Ediger, Pastor Trudy and also to Craig Johnston, Kathy Bunkowsky, and Mark Reimer from Doyle's Funeral Home for their care and compassion.
All these changes were not easy adjustments for Gladys but thanks to the loving and gracious care she received in each of her residences, we her family, are truly grateful. The family wishes to thank everyone who attended the funeral and to those who visited her over the years. Many, many thanks to all the wonderful staff at the Boyne Lodge for all you kind and loving care given to Gladys "Sparkey" the past 18 months. All of your care was GREATLY APPRECIATED.
