1 APRIL 1923 – 6 JUNE 2011

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Chriss Sloane, at the Carman Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the age of 88.

Chriss is fondly remembered and will be sincerely missed by his two sons Murray (Glenda) of Winnipeg, MB and Brian (Dianne) of High Bluff, MB, his grandsons David (Carolyn) of Calgary, Bruce (Aileen) of Edmonton, Jason of Calgary, Gren (Twila) of Giroux, and Jonathan (Leanne) of Morden, and three great grandchildren, Jason's daughter Morgan and son Jared and David and Carolyn's son Christopher Owen.

Chriss was predeceased by his wife Edra, in January of 2008, his sister Jean (Mrs. Claire Procter) in January of 2009 as well as his parents Bernie and Cora (nee Johnston) Sloane.

Chriss was born in Winnipeg, MB and lived in the Roland district until retiring from the family farm in 1990, when he and Edra moved to Carman. Farming left little time for recreation but Chriss enjoyed travel and music, particularly square dancing. He and Edra regularly attended dances in many parts of Manitoba, where they made many friends. After retiring, Chriss and Edra continued to enjoy annual "fifth-wheel" trailer adventures, travelling to Texas and Arizona for winter vacations. In later years, when long road trips became too difficult, frequent visits to McDonalds in Winkler to enjoy the company of friends and acquaintances became a priority. Although he was a quiet person, we always knew Chriss thought the world of everyone in his family, particularly the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Chriss was always ready to help them, as well as friends and neighbours, in any way he could.

The family would like to extend grateful appreciation to all Chriss's neighbours and the Carman Home Care Services staff for their invaluable assistance to him while he was living alone in his home and to the Carman Memorial Hospital medical and nursing staff for their kindness and care during recent months.

In accordance with Chriss's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service and interment at the Fairview Cemetery, Roland, MB will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Chriss may be made to one's charity of choice.
