1910 ~ 2011
Harriet passed away peacefully on Thursday January 13, 2011 at the Boyne Lodge Care Home in Carman, Manitoba. Boyne Lodge had been her home for the past 10 years. She was 100 years and six months old. Mom leaves to mourn her children: daughter Jean McMahon (Jack) of Roland, Manitoba, and son Andrew Roy (Doreen) of Hope, B.C. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas William in 1977. She also leaves many relatives in England.
Mom was born in Batley, County of York in England in 1910. She married our dad in May of 1928. After a small reception they left for their new home in Canada. After 10 days by boat and much sea sickness she arrived in Montreal. Then after a long train trip, she arrived to homestead with dad in Bield, Manitoba. Mom and Dad lived in Teulon for 28 years before moving to Carman.
Mom was a wonderful cook and could milk a cow faster than anyone. She helped Dad raising chickens for a living and sold eggs, often trading them for sugar and other things when times were tough.
She was a wonderful care giver to Dad and a great babysitter to the grandchildren, not only looking after them but their friends also.
Mom supported Carman and was a member of the Anglican Church.
Special thanks go out to the caring staff of Boyne Lodge, they are the best!
Funeral service was held from Doyle’s Funeral Home in Carman with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. Interment of ashes will be at a later date.
We love you mom, always have, and always will.
