MARY JANE McGREGOR (FLOYDE)

Nov 19, 1920 – Mar 6, 2011

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Mary Jane McGregor.

Mary was born on the home farm in McCreary to John and Mary Floyde.  She was married to R.C. (Bob) McGregor of Carman for 35 years before he passed in 1986.

Mary’s life will be carried on by her 2 children Cathy (Doug) Stevenson of Rapid City and Dr. Robert McGregor (Annette Caron) of Winnipeg/Carman, 4 grandchildren Leah (Jason) Sumner of Neepawa; John Beddome of Barrie, ON; Donna (Jeff) Wytinck of Carman and James Beddome (Caitlin McIntyre) of Winnipeg and 3 great-grandchildren Rylan and Makenna Sumner and Amelia Mary Wytinck.

She is survived by one sister Lillian Hoey of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Ann Floyde of McCreary and a loving extended family.  She is pre-deceased by her husband, Bob and brothers Thomas, Leonard, William and Lindenberg; sister-in-laws Florence and Norma and brother-in-law Jim Hoey.

Mary was so happy to celebrate her 90th birthday party this past November with many family and friends.

After graduating as a teacher from Normal School in 1939, Mary taught in small schools across MB including Tenby, Arden, Rivers, Transcona, and Winnipeg.  Mary went back to college and earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1945.  She was a devoted teacher for a total of 12 years before she married Bob McGregor in 1951 and moved to Carman.

Bob and Mary operated McGregor Record of Performance Breeder Hatchery selling Barred Rocks and Scotch Grey chicks and poultry throughout MB, Canada, and even to England.  She still lived in her family house on the farm (which became part of the town of Carman).  She also raised and bred Scotch collies, a love passed down from her mother.

Mary was a faithful member of the CarmanUnitedChurch.  She was an active volunteer with the U.C.W. women, Winnipeg Gladiolus Society, and Carman Horticulture Society and many more.

Mary will best remembered by many for her love of flowers, especially gladiolus and dahlias!  She maintained a large garden and was an expert in growing prize-winning gladiolus and dahlias, which she proudly displayed at horticulture shows across MB, Canada and Minnesota.  Mary loved the joy of giving away her flowers to friends and regularly brought arrangements to friends, church, and the senior care homes.  Grandma you will live on thru your legacy of glads and all flowers!

Mary McGregor’s funeral will be held Fri, March 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Carman United Church.  In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made in memory of Mary to the CarmanUnitedChurch and the Canadian Bible Society.

Legacy of Love

A wife, a mother, a grandma, a great-grandma too,

This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,

You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find

And in your heart, you were always kind

You fought for us all in one way or another,

You taught us how to take care of each other.

For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you've earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.
