img_1156884757_15606_1273503131_mod_255_319.jpgAfter a long fulfilling life, Janet (Jessie) Agnes Duncan Simpson peacefully passed away May 3, 2010. Jessie leaves to mourn her daughter Cathy Rudd (Bill), grandchildren Nicholas, Jacqueline and Duncan Rudd. Jessie was predeceased by her husband Luther E. Simpson, brother and sister -in- law Donald A. and Julie McLardy.

Mom was born November 29, 1913 and raised on a farm near Miami, Manitoba. After completing her schooling she moved to Winnipeg, MB where she worked as a accounts receivable clerk for Lever Brothers Ltd.. Her career with Lever Brothers spanned more than 20 years and took her to Toronto, Montreal and then back to Winnipeg.  In 1951, she traveled to the Isle of Aaron, Scotland to visit her maternal Grandmother, and her numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  This was a much enjoyed trip that continued with many years of correspondence with family in Scotland.  Mom and Dad were married on Sept 6, 1958 and made Carman, MB their home. Catherine Louise was born a year and a half later.

Mom was a community minded individual.  She belonged to many organizations including the United Church Women, Carman Legion Auxiliary, and Carman Horticultural Society.  Mom and Dad enjoyed 5 pin bowling, the many camping and fishing trips taken with family and friends, as well as traveling to various locations with tour groups and friends. Camping at Lake Audy, MB was always a special place.

Mom loved gardening, especially flowers, she was a Junior Garden Club leader for many years, passing on knowledge and seeing the youth gardens at the end of the season was very rewarding to her.  Growing up there was a lot of canning and preserving done from our gardens ample supply of produce.  I have not yet tasted any better raspberry jelly than the jelly she used to make.

The Rudd family welcomed Mom and Dad into their family after Cathy and Bill’s marriage. This new family extension meant a great deal to Mom, she enjoyed being included in all the Rudd family gatherings.

Jessie’s grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved having them around. She read books to them for hours.  The Christmas books that she read each Christmas Eve will be remembered fondly. She always made them feel special and spoiled them on many an occasion.

Jessie was a very helpful, patient and kind person who enjoyed making other people happy. She was a very giving person who seldom complained. Although she is gone, we have great memories that we will cherish and that will keep her with us forever.  Funeral service was held May 8, 2010 at Doyle’s Funeral Home in Carman.

Cathy, Bill and family wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all who have helped us through this difficult time. Thank you to Craig at Doyle’s, to Cathie Waldie for a beautiful funeral service, the Legion Ladies Aux., to friends and family for their kind words and memories shared of mom, for fellowship and food, to the Graysville 4H Light Horse and Pony Club for looking after and serving the lunch after the funeral.
