Henrietta Driedger passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Carman Memorial Hospital with all of her children by her side.
She was born January 26, 1923 in Halbstadt, Manitoba. She married Jac Driedger on October 9, 1943 and farmed in the Barnsley area. After moving to Carman, she received her home care attendant certificate and was employed by the Health District for over ten years. She raised a family of six children and was an active member of the Homewood Mennonite Church, Tracey Homemakers, and the Carman Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, music and entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Barry, Carol (Terry) Bates, Cathy (Blake) McCutcheon, John (Juli) Driedger, Wenda (Bill) Edge, Shelley Driedger (Lloyd Morden); her grandchildren: Jennifer Funk (Troy Smithson), Jason Vrooman, Cathy Jean (Michael) Nicholson, Carol Lynn (Lance) Schafer, Jami (Jason) Neufeld, Jodi (Jean-Guy) Roy, Joy (Derek) Gilbert, Jerilyn Driedger (John Koliaska), Debra (Jordan) Hiebert, Cara Edge (Scott Bartz) and her great-grandchildren: Oscar Funk, Ryan, Josh and Jordan Smithson, Claire and Luke Nicholson, Jake and Clarke Schafer, Malia and Avery Neufeld, Sophia and Lucas Roy, Joshua and Reid Gilbert, Emily Hiebert. Mom said that her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and her great grandchildren as they gave purpose and meaning to her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Aaron (Helen) Klassen, Marie Dyck, Erdman (Anne) Klassen, William Klassen (Donna Harvey), Elsa (Werner)Neufeld, Katie Klassen, Katherine (Gert) Martens, Ernst Klassen, Susanna Klassen, John (Alice) Klassen, Charles ( Margaret) Klassen, Stan (Lona) Klassen, Victor Klassen, Sara Driedger as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by Jac, her husband of 61 years her sister Anna Hiebert, her brother Paul Klassen, her brother in laws: Martin Hiebert, James Dyck, John K Driedger, Frank Driedger, George Driedger, Jac Janzen, and sister in laws: Mary Janzen, Sue Driedger, Tina Driedger and Margaret Driedger.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010, at Carman Mennonite Church. Donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the University of Manitoba Anatomical Research Fund.
