Hazel Eunice Buchanan
April 11, 1931 - July 6, 2010
Hazel Buchanan passed away peacefully at the Foyer Notre Dame following several years of declining health.
Hazel was predeceased by her parents, William and Elizabeth Buchanan of Miami, Manitoba, brothers Jim, Charlie, Norman, Jesse, Clifford, Archie and Barney, an infant sister and her beloved foster parents, George and Edith McIntyre of Carman, Manitoba. She is survived by her brother Thomas and his wife Isabelle of Victoria, British Colombia.
Hazel was born in Miami and lived there until the untimely deaths of both her parents following which she went to live with the McIntyre’s, with whom she lived until the time of their deaths. Hazel helped with the family farm, particularly the market gardening, and upon moving from the farm into Carman, Hazel continued with her gardening as well as establishing a small housekeeping service.
Many people in Carman will remember Hazel bicycling around town on her red bicycle, which she did for pleasure as well as to carry out her business. Hazel had a great sense of humour and loved to share a good joke. Perhaps most notably she will be remembered for her love of dogs, they provided her constant companionship and unconditional love throughout her life.
The last years of Hazel’s life were spent at the Foyer Notre Dame in Notre Dame de Lourdes. We would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care that Hazel received from the staff at the Foyer, from companions Stacey and Jeanne as well as from the Palliative Care volunteers.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Doyle’s Funeral Chapel, Carman. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman.
Donations in memory of Hazel can be made to the Notre Dame Foundation (Palliative Care).
