On May 14, 2010, Edward Benson Berry, aged 92, passed peacefully from this world into the loving arms of His Saviour.

Left to mourn are his loving wife of 66 years, Mildred (Hunt), daughter Joy (Gordon) Franklin of Edmonton, son Edward (Colleen) Berry of Peachland, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Benson was pre-deceased by his son Edward Byron Berry in 1946.

Born in Reston, MB, the 8th of 10 children, on November 23, 1917, Benson was the last surviving member of the family.

After his school years, he worked in the family business in Reston before joining the Canadian army in 1941. Following his marriage to Mildred in 1943, he completed studies at Western Bible College in Winnipeg, serving as a minister in Roland for the P.A.O.C.

While raising his family, he worked in the glass and insurance business in Brandon, and was deeply involved in his church and in ministry with the Gideons (53 years).

Summers with family and friends were spent at Manhattan Beach Camp, and travelling. Many a good fishing story or adventure resulted from those happy years.

When the family left home, Benson and Mildred moved to Tucson, Arizona for 24 years, returning frequently to celebrate special occacions and appreciate the cooler Canadian summers. Their grandchildren especially anticipated these visits.

In 1994, they moved into their new home in Carman, enjoying 16 years together.

Family and friends remember Benson for his wonderful sense of humour, integrity, sharp wit and jokes. More importantly, he will be remembered for his love of God, and his witness for Jesus Christ.

The family wish to thank the skilled health team at Carman Memorial Hospital for the excellent care given to Benson in his final days, and for the many acts of kindness given by pastors, extended family, friends and neighbours.

Bye for now. Until we meet again.

A memorial service celebrating Benson's life will take place Saturday, May 22, 2010, 2 pm. at Friends Community Church, 245 1st St. NW, Carman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International, www.gideons.ca or phone 1-888-482-4253.
