February 18, 1921 ~ March 4, 2009

On Wednesday, March 4, 2009, Evelyn Webber passed away at the Carman Hospital.

Mom will be missed by her son Dennis (Margaret) and grandson Christopher, who she greatly worshipped. She will also be missed by her brother Allen (Beryl), her sister Hazel and many close friends and relatives. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1994, and grandson Wayne in 1979.

Mom was born February 18, 1921 to Edward and Elizabeth Gibson of Culross, MB. In November of 1944 she married Bob Webber, and they spent nearly 50 years together. In the earlier years Evelyn worked as a telephone operator at Swan Lake and Miami. Mom and dad moved to Pat Bay, British Columbia shortly after they were married. It wasn’t for long though, and they returned to Manitoba in April of 1948 establishing a farm in the Rosebank area. Mom would often tell us of their journey to the farm. The snowplow went first, followed by a load of coal, and Angers Transfer with the furniture. They had no hydro or telephone in the original farmhouse, but they did have lots of mice. Mom recalled having the fur on her slippers eaten off by the mice. They remained on the farm until 1975 when they retired to Carman. Evelyn had a great love for her garden in summer. She spent countless hours outside, and preferred the outdoors rather than being inside. Mom also had a great love for cats. In her later years mom sold Avon and volunteered with the United Way. She was dedicated to serving others and spent many hours going to the Lodge to look after her own mother. She often put others ahead of herself. In October of 2003 Mom moved to the Boyne Lodge where she resided until her passing.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman United Church, with Rev. Catherine Waldie officiating. Interment will take place at the Miami Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to CancerCare Manitoba.

Bye mom, see you later.
