Preceded by his wife Betty, Ken departed this life on August 17th, 2009, at the age of 81 years. Left to remember his love and pride of family are their children: Deb (Bryan) Williams, Barb (Tim) Horodyski, Dave (Bonny), and Bev (Jeff) Gushulak; grandchildren Rob (Dawna), Chris (Tyler), Julie and Aaron; great grandchildren Brooke and Taylor. Ken was also preceded by his mother Jackie (nee Clark), father Arthur Pirt, and step-father Bert Horn.

Dad was blessed to have our step mother Ruth Ullyot accept his proposal of marriage, to be together for their remaining years, and also to have Susan Eastveld and Margaret Rempel and their extended families join our family.

Ken was born in Winnipeg, September 12th, 1927, and raised and educated in Carman. A WWII and Korean War veteran, Ken served 37 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, and 11 years with the Federal Public Service, before retiring in Portage la Prairie. He returned to Carman in 2004 to be with Ruth.

A long time member and supporter of the ideals of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ken held numerous positions with Carman Branch # 18, most recently serving as past president. Ken was a loving and caring individual, always putting others needs before his own; he will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Carman Memorial Hospital for your care & compassion. You embraced not only our Dad, but our entire family.

A private interment of remains will be conducted by Ken’s Carman Legion Branch # 18 comrades. A funeral service will be held at the Grace St. John’s Church (80 2nd St. SW, Carman, MB) at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 21st. Following the service, refreshments will be served at the Carman Legion Auxiliary hall. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation to your choice of charity would be appreciated.
