Sidney John Foote
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sid Foote at his home in Elm Creek, MB on Monday, May 11, 2009.
Sid was born on February 21, 1914 in Moosomin, SK and moved to Winnipeg, MB with his parents Percy John (Jack) and Ethel Beatrice (Goddard) Foote. After his father passed away during the flu epidemic in 1918, he moved to the Wingham district in 1919 with his widowed mother and sister Frances. Ethel married James Frost in 1922 and 3 more children were born. In 1936, Sid bought land 6 1/2 miles north and 3 miles west of Elm Creek. Sid married Olive May Reid in 1944 and together they raised a family of 7 children, living and working together in unity for almost 65 years. Sid worked hard with Olive's help on their mixed farm which included animals, poultry and grain. Sid & Olive retired to town in 1976 but still enjoyed farm life with their son Jack. Sid served his community on the boards of The Elm Creek Senior Citzens, United Church, Wingham School, Co-op Oil, Community Hall and Locker Plant.
Sid was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Armstrong and Roberta Hodge; 5 brothers-in-law, Kelly Armstrong, Laval Cox, Robert Reid, Gordon Reid, Clifford Reid and son-in-law Nelson Leask.
Sid is survived by his loving wife Olive; six daughters and their spouses, Janie & Eric Schroeder, Carol & Jake Banman, Ellen & Bob Blain, Shirley Leask, Joyce & Jeff Nicolajsen, Donna & Rob Riddell; one son, Jack and his wife Andrea Foote; 18 grandchildren, Nicole (Claude), Coleen (Mario), Rick (Darlene), Teresa (Bryan), Connie (Terry), Nolan (Candis), Jenifer (Darrel), Derek, Janna (Mark), Jolie (Devan), Erin (Jason), Adam, Colin, Dane, Rachel, Sidney, Quinne and Phoebe; 18 great grandchildren, Dominic, Ryan (Chantal), Jenessa, Jessica, Caitlyn, Tyson, Jerrod, Carah, Krysten, Gavin, Mackenzie, Kaden, Lindyn, Tallyn, Kailyn, Meadow, Brittany and Chandler; brother and sister-in-law, Doug & Hazel Frost; sister Dorothy Cox, brother-in-law Oliver Hodge; sister-in-law Frances Reid; and many nieces & nephews.
Funeral service was held Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Elm Creek Community Hall with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. Thanks to the many people who attended and shared their memories. Donations can be made to the Elm Creek United Church or a charity of one's choice.
