Marie Rose Bossuyt (Ciszewski)
Aug. 4, 1909 – Nov. 28, 2009
After a long life well-lived, our mother died peacefully at Golden Links Lodge at the age of 100. She was surrounded with the love of family throughout her life and in her final moments.
Mom is now re-united with her loving husband Archie, who predeceased her in 1997, as well as her son Connie, who passed away in 2007. Marie is survived by six children: Margaret Ross (Rod), Joyce Dusik (Rudy), Lorne (Polly), John (Beverley), Vic (Viviane), Donna Burns (Rodney), daughter-in-law Isabelle and by special niece and nephew Doreen Anseeuw and George Bossuyt. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Marie was born in Husavick, MB, the youngest of 14 children. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 15 to work as a housekeeper, where she met our dad. They were married in 1930. Mom and Dad worked side by side to establish a dairy farm in Fort Garry then, after a fire in 1943, relocated to Oak Bluff. Mom was an extraordinary woman who was at home not only in the kitchen but also behind the wheel of a truck, hauling eight-gallon cream cans to the creamery and malt from the brewery for the cows. Mom was a strong matriarch and role model, for whom family always came first. She was devout in her faith, saying her rosary daily. She took great pride in her home, yard and garden. Her home was always open to friends and strangers alike and her grandchildren knew the cookie tin was always full. She made the best cinnamon buns ever!
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Golden Links Lodge for all their care and compassion.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Barry Schoonbaert on Friday, December 4 at 1:00 at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway. Interment will follow in Thompson in the Park Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christmas Cheer Board, PO Box 51089, Winnipeg, MB, R2X 3C6 or Golden Links Lodge, 2280 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, R2N 3Z6.
