Ella May Purse (McElroy)

1912 – 2008

Ella passed away on November 4, 2008, at the Boyne Lodge, Carman, MB at the age of 96.

She is survived by two daughters and one son: Lenore (Don) Weir, of Carman, MB, and their children, Bob (Deb) Weir, Janet (Ed) Conway, and Leanne (Larry) Maykut; Judy (Bob) Hainstock of Kentville, NS, and their children, Ryan (Corinne) Hainstock and Meagan (Stephen) Petersen; Charles (Annie) Purse of Revelstoke, B.C. and their children Michael (Karyn) Purse and Kathryn.  Also eleven great-grandchildren.

On September 15 1939, Ella married Clair Purse.  That same month, he joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers and was sent overseas in 1941.  After he returned in 1945, they farmed in the Darlingford area for a few years.  They also lived in Brandon, Miami, and Morden.  When Clair passed away in 1997, Ella moved to the Boyne Towers in Carman and then to the Boyne Lodge in 2007.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and especially being around the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clair, in 1997 and their son, Dr. Douglas Purse, in 1984.  Also four brothers and three sisters.

A private family service was held at Doyle’s Funeral Chapel in Morden on November 7, 2008 with Rev. Allison Halstead officiating.  Interment followed in the Darlingford Cemetery.

If friends so desire donations may be made to the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644, Carman, MB, R0G 0J0, or to a charity of one’s choice.
