(nee: Siemens)

Dorothy Penner passed away peacefully on June 25th,2008 at the Boundary Trails Health Centre.

Mom was born on January 17th, 1934 to Jacob and Tina Siemens of Grossweide, ( Plum Coulee area), the only sister to her brother Henry. She was baptized in the Sommerfelder church as a young woman upon confession of her faith.

Stories mom told us of her childhood were about running across the road to visit with her friends, working with her dad out in the fields, playing baseball, gathering with friends at their home, playing guitar and singing, dancing, and meeting the one true love of her life, Arthur Penner in the year 1949. They were married in 1952 and were blessed with 7 children and a marriage lasting nearly 56 years.

Mom and dad spent most of their years working together farming in the Horndean area and later operated A & D Seeds. Mom enjoyed hard work , actively doing her share of the farm work. She spent much time gardening and canning, and was active in community activities, fall suppers, 4-H Club, sewing group and school projects. She was an avid seamstress and creative person, sewing a lot for her growing family and others.

Mom had a strong faith and belief in God. Although she freely spoke about it when the time was right, the example she leaves is that she simply lived it. She felt richly blessed by all the people she loved so much and thankful for each one.

Upon their retirement to Morden in the early 1990’s, mom enjoyed meeting new friends through line dancing and Friendship centre choir and the ladies that met together regularly. She loved the visits by all her new and old friends right to her last days. With sadness, our mother’s health deteriorated this spring and after nearly a month of hospitalization, she looked forward to her heavenly home. She assured us all of her love and peace.

She leaves to mourn her husband Arthur Penner, and 5 daughters and 2 sons and their families, Jeanne & Rudy Fast , Elise (Frank) Ainley, Jared and Jordan Fast, Newmarket, ON, Harvey & Linda Penner, Matthew & Danielle, Edmonton, AB, Brenda Sawatsky, Aven ( Angela) Sawatsky and Erin ( Tommy) Truong, Surrey, BC, Jolene & Joe Johnston, Reid, Josh & Luke Johnston, Fort St. John, BC, Val & Karl Dick, Tyler, Mitchell and Jessica Dick, Plum Coulee,MB, Glori & Edwin Dalke, Eric, Shane, Leanne & Austin Dalke, Morden, MB, Myron and Andrea Penner, Elle and Paige Penner, Abbotsford, BC. Two Great Grandchildren, Hope Sawatsky and Sammy Truong.

She is also survived by her brother Henry and Evelyn Siemens, Winkler, MB

Brother-in laws, Don & Chris Penner, Altona,MB, Walter & Lydia Penner, Winnipeg, MB, Sister-in law, Katie Fehr, Vanderhoof, BC. and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brother-in-laws, John Penner, Edwin Penner and Ike Fehr, one sister-in-law, Toots Penner Unrau, and step-brother-in-law John Unrau.

Our family expresses our sincere thanks to all the friends and relatives that visited mom and supported us as a family, and the gifts of food, flowers and cards. Thank you to the Sommerfeld Church for their support and care, and the Ladies group for serving.
