On Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, MB.  Don McKee beloved husband of Dorothy McKee passed away at the age of 85.

Don leaves to mourn his loving wife, three daughters, Cheryl and Barry Bigus, Lynn McKee, and Heather and Bill McEachern, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  His sister Ruth and Lawrence Fric of London, Ontario, Sister-in-law Helen Lechner of Loydminister, Saskatchewan, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ralph and Alice Bates and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his dad Jim in 1953 and his mom Elizabeth in 1997, and his only son Kevin on January 31, 1975.  The saddest day of his life.

He was born on the McKee farm south of Sperling, MB and named after his two grandfathers Richard Rance and Robert McKee.  He grew up on the farm and took grade 1 to 11 at Sperling and grade 12 in Carman.

He married Dorothy Bates in 1948.  He farmed until the late 60’s and then took an electrician’s course and did wiring and plumbing in the Sperling and Carman area.

Don was past Master of Patricia Lodge #125 and received his 50 year pin in 1999.

He was Scout leader and proud to see some of them go on to become Queen Scouts.  He was assistant District Commissioner of La Verandrye Trail District.

He enjoyed watching sports and held season tickets to the Winnipeg Jets games for a few winters.  He also enjoyed watching baseball, soccer, and football live on T.V.

His interest in later years was family histories.  He made family history books for the McKee’s, Bates’, and Rance’s.

Don and Dorothy retired to Carman in 1997.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998 and the 100th anniversary for the farm.  They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2008.

We would like to express sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Boundary Trails Hospital, Carman Memorial Hospital, and Boyne Lodge for your care and kindness shown to Don over the past few years.
