November 14, 1946 – July 31, 2008

Ray passed away on July 31 at home after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by son Darryl of Phoenix, AZ and siblings, Greg (Paulette), Bill (Dagmar) and Bob (Erin). He is also survived by in-laws Mariette De Pauw (Peter), Aime Boiteau (Shirley), Terry Haid (Don), Yvette Evans (Ron), Jack Boiteau (Shirley) and Alice Boiteau, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his wife Marie (2007) and his parents Jennie and Jack Horsman. Ray is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles and their extended families.

Ray was raised on the family farm at Roland, Manitoba. He obtained a degree in engineering at the University of Manitoba and worked his entire career for Canadian Pacific Railway as a civil engineer. After several moves for the company spanning everywhere from Vancouver, BC to Thunder Bay, ON they returned to Manitoba in 1992 and eventually retired to his dream home (built to his wife’s specifications) on the Lee River near Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba where Ray could enjoy his favourite pass time fishing.

When not out in the boat, Ray could be found happily knee deep in sawdust in his workshop creating some exact project for the home, a neighbour, or his family. True to his farming roots, Ray loved the land and outdoors. His love for the outdoors could always be seen through many family camping trips or by his smile and friendly wave from his trusty lawn tractor.

Regardless of whatever project Ray had on the go, he always dropped it when he heard the familiar "clanging" of the happy hour bell. Usually a weekend ritual, you could often hear Ray’s loud stories or chuckles from one of the neighbouring decks. Ray truly enjoyed visiting with his good friends and enjoying their company overlooking the Lee River. His family cannot over express their gratitude for the help they provided during his illness.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Roland United Church on Wednesday, August 6th at 2:00 p.m. with Shirley McLaren officiating. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Roland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ray’s name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB. R3E 0V9.
