Peter Braun was born to David & Elizabeth Braun on May 5, 1928 at Rosthern SK. He spent his childhood on the farm at Aberdeen SK where he also attended school.

In 1946, Dad, with his parents, moved to a farm at Elm Creek MB. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Bishop David Schulz on May 30, 1947 at the Homewood Mennonite Church.

On October 21, 1951 Rev. D.D. Klassen officiated at the wedding ceremony between Peter Braun and Mary Toews. They shared more than 55 years together. They were blessed with 5 children during their time at Elm Creek – Mary Anne, David, Elizabeth, Bill and Lydia. Mom and Dad sold the farm and moved into Carman the summer of 1964. There Darlene joined the family.

Dad worked with great dedication as a road grader operator for the Rural Municipality of Dufferin for 15 years.

After struggling with his health for about a year, Dad was diagnosed with Addison’s disease in 1979, which he continued to deal with for the remainder of his life. He tried going back to work. He got a job at Blight’s putting together farm equipment, but found it to be too difficult.

When he accepted that he was no longer able to work at a job, he took up woodworking to pass his time. Dad took great pride in the yard and garden. He learned to do housework and shopping. He took delight in helping his neighbours. As of recent, their neighbours have been there helping Mom & Dad out. We as a family are so thankful for their neighbourhood. Mom & Dad were always willing to pick up anyone who needed a ride to church. They delivered meals-on-wheels. His coffee friends were an important part of his regular routine.

This past January Dad was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer, which he accepted with a confident calmness. The oxygen allowed him to have relative enjoyment for a few months, during which time he determined to enjoy each good day to the fullest.

Dad was admitted to the Carman Hospital on April 28, returning home on May 1 to enjoy his last days. He celebrated his 79th birthday on May 5 with family and neighbours. On May 10 he was once again admitted to the hospital where he rested peacefully till his passing at approximately 3:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2007.

He is predeceased by his father David Braun, his mother Elizabeth Braun (nee Janzen); his stepfather Jacob Neudorf, his sister Elizabeth Hildebrandt and his brother-in-law Isaac Hildebrandt.

Dad is survived by his wife Mary (nee Toews), 6 children: Mary Anne (Art) Falk, David (April) Braun, Elizabeth (Ed) Thiessen, Bill (Joanne) Braun, Lydia (Doug) Walker, Darlene (Greg) Stevens; 18 grandchildren: Candice (Cory) Klassen, Donavin (Shannon) Falk, Brad Falk, Rachel (Jeff) Hildebrandt, Erin Braun, Emilie Braun, Brian Thiessen, Maria (Andrew) Funk, Kevin Thiessen, Gary Thiessen, Andrew (Tara) Braun, Russell (Lori) Braun, Jared Braun, Tari Braun, Shaelyn Walker, Sam Stevens, Louis Stevens, Naomi Stevens; 5 great-grandchildren: Raina Klassen, Aaron Klassen, Marlee Klassen, Leah Braun, Toby Braun.
