Burton Delano Johnson November 22, 1932 – October 15, 2006 On Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, Burton Delano Johnson, aged 73 years, beloved husband of Idris Johnson of Morris, Manitoba.
Bert is survived by his wife Idris, and one brother Reubon. He was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, Harvey, and Wallace and one sister Olde.
Bert was born in Saskatchewan, and attended Meadowvale School by Dugald. They moved to Dugald, Manitoba in 1937, where they farmed. Bert left home at the age of 16 and went to work at the C.N. Railroad where he worked for 37 years, until his retirement. Bert loved to deal in real estate, buying and selling houses and buying and selling cars. He liked to play shuffleboard, loved travelling, watching sports and playing cards. Bert and Idris loved to go to garage sales. Bert loved collecting hats and hubcaps.
Bert and Idris have known each other since 1965. They lived in Winnipeg, Emerson, and Morris. Bert suffered a stroke in April of 1999. Idris took care of him until she had the misfortune of falling and breaking both her arms. Idris could no longer take care of Bert, so Doctors placed Bert in the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris. With the help of a good friend Olga and Gilbert and Roxanne and the home care people, Idris was able to stay in their home. Another good friend Claude Vermette used to take Bert and Idris for car rides. Berts favorite was having Claude take him to look at cars which he loved to do. But before they went back to the lodge, Bert loved to stop and have a hamburger and a Pepsi, which made his day. At the Lodge, Bert used to help in the kitchen making cookies. He loved all the music which people supplied at the Lodge.
